There is a part of Betsy Ground which should be regularised

Dear Editor,

My appeal to former president Jagdeo to intervene and prevent someone from breaking my house, throwing it on the road and confiscating my land did not prevent it from happening.

Documents were produced to facilitate the demolition and the matter was appealed; I was represented by attorneys Anil Nandlall and Sanjeev Datadin.

While nothing was heard of the appeal the defendant now has a matter in the Berbice land court claiming title as for lot 23 Betsy Ground. Editor this land is a reserve (street) that was occupied by four families over 75 years ago. My foreparents were in front near to the road and the others were behind; we were the first occupants too. No one never challenged the occupation of this reserve as the parapet of lot 23 has been used as the street ever since.

There is one owner of transported lot 23, so there cannot be 2 lots 23 as all lots are 5 rods (60 ft). The original plan of the area was replaced by a tinkered one to show the contentious 11/2 rods as Lot 23. In so doing the transported lots of 23-30 have been changed to 24-31 causing confusion. Using this plan surveyors have carelessly allotted wrong numbers to established numbered lots despite protests from villagers.

I am appealing to this new administration to intervene at least do a survey to restore order. This particular area in Betsy Ground has other encroachments that have caused streets to be 3 feet wide instead of 12 ft, pipelines to be placed in the middle of streets and power lines planted in what appears to be people’s property, etc. This situation should be regularized now.

The numerous appeals to the former administration and chairmen of the NDC have been shunned. What makes this matter interesting is that a parliamentarian is claiming a reserve for his sister.

I seek justice and no more corruption as promised by this new administration. Either everyone is removed or I am restored to where we occupied for over 75 years.

Yours faithfully,
Pearly Munilall
