Historic triumph!

History was created yesterday at the National Stadium in Providence as Alpha United secured their maiden win over Surinamese foe Inter Moengotapoe, downing the Dutch giants 3-0 to kick start their Caribbean Football Union (CFU) campaign in the perfect manner.

While it was not a vintage performance by either team, the trio of Daniel Wilson, Gregory Richardson and Kithson Bain ensured the small viewership of just over a 100 left in good spirits with goals in the 26th, 56th and 90th minutes respectively.

Due to the win, Alpha United move onto three points and will now lock horns with Central FC of Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday April 19th at the same venue in their final group fixture. On the other hand, the Surinamese unit remain on zero poin

They will now oppose Central FC tomorrow at the same locale. Playing their part in the cagey opening exchanges, Alpha United would break the deadlock with their very fist shot on target to ignite celebrations from the small gathering.

Racing into the centre of the box to latch onto a Kithson Bain through pass, Wilson would upon being in a one-on-one situation with custodian Huiswoud Obrendo, would clinically finish his right footed strike into the lower right hand corner.

A deflection almost led to the hosts doubling their lead six minutes later as a Konata Manning left footed strike from the top of the box, took a slight defection of the leg of the defender, wrong-footing Obrendo while rolling marginally wide of the right hand corner.

The Surinamese would then have Obrendo to thank for denying the Guyanese from increasing their lead, as the shot-stopper denied Richardson in a one-on-one situation within the right side of the box with a sliding tackle one minute before half time

Alpha United would eventually double their lead 12 minutes into the second stanza as Richardson netted compliments of a simple header.

With Manning forcing a untidy save from Obrendo after latching onto a initial deflection from a Manuel Vargas shot on top of the box, Richardson upon lurking inside the area, would calmly direct his headed attempt unchallenged into the left corner.

Struggling to find fluency in the final third, the visitors would register their first shot on target in the 60th minute compliments of a overhead volley from Stekkel Romano within the centre of the box, which was smartly gathered by Ronson Williams.

On the opposite side, Obrendo would be called into action once more three minutes later as a curling right footed Richardson freekick from the left side of the box, was punched away by desperately by the custodian.

Nonetheless, the home side would hammer the final nail in the coffin as Bain’s netted in the final minute of normal time, smashing his strike into the top right hand corner from within the left of the box, after a flat right sided Sheldon Holder cross evaded the visitors backline.
