Billion-dollar bids received for pharmaceuticals

Tenders were opened yesterday for pharmaceutical supplies to the state and there were 19 bidders including ANSA McAl Trading at $1.9b and the New Guyana Pharmaceutical Corporation (NGPC) at $1.7b.

The bids, divided into twenty lots, were opened at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB), Ministry of Finance compound. Bids for these supplies have evoked great interest since the new administration did away with pre-qualification requirements which had enabled NGPC to do most of the supplying of pharmaceuticals. A number of companies had complained about this practice. The former PPP/C administration had been accused of favouring NGPC.

The names of the companies and their respective bids are as follows. Some companies bid for only some of the lots.
