A city court heard that on May 24, at Puruni Landing, Essequibo, Samuel Boucher, 26, of 86 South Ruimveldt Park, Georgetown, with intent to murder, wounded Shenella Rodrigues.

Boucher was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.

According to Police Prosecutor Neville Jeffers, who objected to bail, Rodrigues is still in the hospital. He said that the accused and Rodrigues are known to each other as she owns a shop in the interior, which he uses.

Jeffers said that on the day in question, there was a misunderstanding between the two and a fight ensued and eventually escalated, resulting in Boucher attempting to kill Rodrigues. Jeffers said a report was made and Boucher was subsequently arrested.

Chief Magistrate McLennan remanded Boucher to prison and adjourned the proceedings until June 15, at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
