Good Faith residents want dam fixed urgently

Residents of the northern side of Good Faith Recess Dam, Mahaicony say the dam is in a terrible condition with huge potholes and needs to be fixed urgently.

They told this newspaper the earthen dam affects them in both dry and rainy weather.

According to them, in the dry weather the dust from the dam “fly” all over and causes them to suffer from allergies and also results in a lot of mess in their homes.

On the other hand, when it rains they can hardly traverse the dam. A few housewives complained that “when we do shopping and have heavy bags, vehicles cannot go through the dam to drop we in and we have to fetch them [the bags] in a far way.”

Further, they said, “Schoolchildren have a difficult time as well. They have to hold their shoes in their hands until they paddle through the muddy dam.”

The residents said the problem existed since last year and it is getting worse. They hope that it can be fixed before the next rainy season comes. According to them they complained several times to the village council “but they are not doing anything.”

Stabroek News was told by someone close to the village council that the road would be fixed with funds from this year’s budget.
