Alvin Kallicharan Foundation team on fourth tour

A team of cricketers-mostly of Guyanese origin-from the UK is to undertake its fourth tour of Guyana starting on Thursday March 29, at Cornelia Ida with a match against a local team. The motley crew of cricketers, led by Captain Pooran Singh, style themselves the Alvin Kallicharran Foundation Team and are scheduled to arrive in Guyana on March 26th.

They will not just play cricket but come bearing some gifts, especially cricket ones, for some of the local communities which they will visit. The five-match tour continues after CI with a match against Uitvlugt Cricket club, again at Cornelia Ida, on March 31. On April 4, they play Diamond at Diamond Cricket Club, and on April 8 they play Enmore at that cricket club before their tour culminates in a final leg at the GCC Bourda on Tuesday April 10.

It is a packed itinerary with the Super Eight World Cup matches-maybe including their adopted land, England-to be fitted in as well. Last time round, in 2006, the Kallicharran Foundation scored three victories out of five in Guyana. This time, they are aiming for a clean sweep. They may be helped in that ambition by the inclusion of two or three ‘ringers’ for matches. The eponymous and great Alvin Kallicharran will join for at least one match, Sheik Mohamed of Enmore for another and Rabindmauth Seeram of CICC for another.

The fruits of their previous tours can be seen throughout Guyana, for example in the bowling machine donated last time to the Providence Stadium; that will be used by the best teams in the world in their practice.

You can catch the Kallicaharran All Stars at any of their five pre-arranged venues or at the jollity of the CWC in Providence or simply ‘around town’.
