Deportee re-arrested in US after attempting to file complaint

A Guyanese man who was deported from the US after being convicted of rape in that country, and had returned illegally, was arrested in January when he went to file a complaint in the Queens District Attorney’s (DA) office.

According to court papers seen by this newspaper, Deportation Officer with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Kenneth Lopez said that on January 24 last, Rabindranauth Deenanath know as Ricky Singh, went to the DA’s office to file a complaint and admitted to being a previously deported alien.

Using a computer database, ICE officers determined that the man was deported from the US on May 5, 2001 after having been convicted of an aggravated felony.

The papers said a review of New York state records revealed that on August 19, 1998, the man was convicted of first degree rape and after serving his time in prison he was deported.

A preliminary review of ICE files revealed that the man had made no re-application to enter the US after being deported. As such, the ICE officer requested that the man be dealt with according to the law. Deenanath is now before the court.
