Police need help to ID man killed on highway

Police are calling on members of the public for their assistance in identifying a man who was killed in an accident on the Linden-Soesdyke Highway.

According to a police statement, on Saturday around 7:25 pm in the vicinity of Loo Creek, a male East Indian was struck by a minibus.

Reports are that Omali Small was driving minibus BKK 2136 en route to Linden and when heading downhill he allegedly came into contact with the victim who was standing in the middle of the road. The man was picked up and rushed to the McKenzie Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The deceased is about 4’9″ in height, thin built, dark in complexion with grey hair. At the time he was clad in a pair of blue three-quarter jeans and a pair of long boots. His body is currently at the McKenzie Hospital mortuary.

Meanwhile information released from the police traffic department has revealed that police have made a total of 14,000 cases against defaulting motorists between December 3 and December 9, as the force’s ‘Operation Safeway’ campaign continues.

In ‘A’ Division the police made 467 cases, while in ‘B’ Division they made 452, followed by 193 in ‘C’ Division, 252 in ‘D’ Division, 11 in ‘E’ and ‘F’ Division and 25 in ‘G’ Division.

The more prevalent cases made were speeding 242, overloaded minibus, 151; failure to conform to signs, 110; obstruction, 135; failing to wear seatbelt, 58, and 60 for stopping within 30 ft of a corner.
