Phone customers in BVI have a choice

Dear Editor,

I am writing in response to the letter captioned “Calls from the BVI are much cheaper than in reverse” (07.11.19). I am a Guyanese national living in the BVI so I think I am qualified to clarify and provide some more information. I am not saying that Mr Singh’s information is incorrect, but we customers have a choice as to which provider we use.

I must first point out that here in the BVI, we have Cable and Wireless as the landline provider, alongside Bmobile as the mobile provider. There is also another mobile provider Caribbean Cellular Telephone Global Com-munications (CCT Global Communica-tions) which also offers a similar service as Cable and Wireless landline but without actual cables (can’t explain how that works, but it’s not the actual cell phone I’m referring to). I will go a little further to list the call costs from the BVI to Guyana from the different providers.

Long Distance Calls

1. Cable & Wireless

Day – $0.65

Evening – $0.60

Weekend – $0.55

2. Bmobile – I’ve been told that’s $0.55, not sure whether day or night or both as I don’t use that service

3. CCT Global communications

Day – $1.93

Evening – $1.65

Weekends – day – $1.58

night – $1.09
