“I am ready for and will defeat Eastman”

-‘Six head’ Lewis

Former World Boxing Association welterweight champion Andrew ‘Six head’ Lewis has told Stabroek Sport that he is ready for and will defeat Howard ‘Battersea Bomber’ Eastman when the two clash at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence Saturday night.

“I am ready for anything he has to bring to me in the ring. Even though I did suffer the shoulder injury, I am fit and rearing to go come Saturday 25th October. In fact, I could have taken him on since the 16th, but I have to follow my doctor’s orders. But come Saturday, it will definitely be a Perfect Storm in the ring between the two of us,” Lewis said.
Lewis, exuding confidence, added, ”My training has been excellent leading up to this fight. Even when I suffered the shoulder injury, I would still visit the gym and do some light work as I am taking this fight very seriously.”

“It is not to say that I don’t take my fights seriously, but this one is being used as my stepping stone back to the top and I will be going into it, the same way I approached the James Page fight for the world title and that is to come out victorious.”

Lewis believes that after watching Eastman fight Denny Dalton, an opponent he himself had three encounters with, he should not find it difficult to get past Eastman, who won an unanimous decision over Dalton early July.

“When they watch Dalton and I and Dalton and Eastman, they could have picked out who was the better fighter of the three, but just in case they found it difficult to do so, I can help them. Andrew Lewis.”

“When Dalton fought Eastman, he (Dalton) fought close up under him and did present some trouble for him. Even though some persons out there feel that I cannot get past Eastman even when I am in my prime, I know for a fact that when Eastman faces me, it will be a different thing all together.”
“Persons out there watch boxing at different moments, but irrespective of what they are saying, it is the two fighters who have to go into the ring and battle it out. I intend to go out there and do what I have to do, and to all those who feel that I can’t beat Eastman, just wait and see who will be the victor on Saturday, as I know that Eastman cannot beat me in a month of Saturdays,” said Lewis.

“He don’t throw more punches than me, and he cannot knock me out, therefore he has a problem going into this bout before it even commences, for as long as he cannot knock me out, which he will not be able to do, he cannot win this fight.”

Frank

With the winner being guaranteed a match up with Raul Frank, a confident looking Lewis already has his eyes on such a bout, which he plans to also use as his stepping stone back onto the international stage.

“Every fight can be used as your stepping stone to get somewhere, irrespective of who is your opponent, especially if he is a good fighter and once fought the best at the top. And with a view at a world title fight within the next three years, I am eagerly looking forward to fighting Frank as early as possible.

“I am not disrespecting any fighter, but I feel that Raul Frank would give me a better fight than Eastman who is not a major threat to me at this moment. And at this point and time, I am feeling confident and strong, ready to take on all who is placed in front of me.”

Lewis would best be remembered as Guyana’s first world champion to many and he intends to repeat that performance sometime in the not too distant future. So come Saturday he has promised to give a good showing to local boxing fans as he aims to return to the pinnacle of boxing.
“I have been building myself up for this bout in the same manner I prepared myself for my world title shot against James Page, where I came out victorious, just so I will come out Saturday 25th October at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.”

Other fights on the card which is a Mc Neal Enterprise/Stanford Solomon Promotion will  see Elton Dharry opposing Orlin Rogers, Rawle Frank going head to head with Winston Pompey over 10 rounds, Veronica Blackman and Sharon Warde clashing over six rounds and Leon Moore and Cecil Smith clashing in a six-round bout.
