MSC/Carib Beer Sixes

A scintillating batting display from Christopher Barnwell steered Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) to its second Sixes title after they defeated Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar (RHTWSB) in the final of the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC)/ Carib Beer-sponsored Sixes tournament on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old Barnwell, who was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), struck four sixes and two fours in an unbeaten 40 from 14 balls to guide DCC to a four-wicket victory.

DCC scored 72-1 from four overs in reply to RHTWSB 66-3 made from their five overs.

In their semi-final encounters, DCC defeated TSC by 13 runs, while RHTWSB defeated MSC by five wickets with three overs to spare.

Results from other matches were:

RHTWSB defeated Young Warriors by four wickets. Young Warriors 49 all out with Balram Samaroo (13) and Riaz Kassim  (11*) being the principal scorers as Fudadin who ended with six wickets at the end of the day, took 2-8.

RHTWSB in reply scored 53-1 from 5.1 overs to defeat their Berbice counterparts and book their place in the semi-finals. Percival (16*), R. Crandon 15* and Fudadin 12 were the principal scorers.

MSC defeated Police Sports Club (PSC) by 23 runs in the first match-up of the day, thanks to the batting of Shemroy Barrington (31*) and Orin Forde (32*) who shared an unbroken 75 runs opening partnership.

In reply, PSC were held to 52-4, even though Troy Benn tried valiantly to steer his side to an upset victory.

DCC 87, (Barnwell 37, Christian 24). GNIC 76 (Mark Montfort 20, Kevin Basil 15 and Marvin Fitzalbert 14).

TSC 68-4, (Watkins 26, Blyden 16. Gavin Singh 2-7). GCC who needed 29 to win from the final over, ended on 50-2 (Wasim Haslim 23*, Robin Bacchus 15)

Barnwell received a trophy and $20,000 each for his Man-of-the-Match and MVP awards respectively, while DCC took home a trophy and $60,000 and RHTWSB a trophy and $40,000.

All trophies were donated by Trophy Stall of Bourda Market, while Carib Beer donated the cash awards and Industrial Safety and Supplies Limited the balls that were used for the day.
