The two will be departing for neighbouring Trinidad and Tobago this morning to be a part of the West Indies team which will be competing in the Enthusiasts’ International Sevens Tournament that is jointly sponsored by LIAT and Carib Beer.

Lead agent of Caribbean Airlines Dion Inniss informed those gathered including president of the GRFU Noel Adonis, that the airlines was pleased to be associated with the GRFU once again on such a venture.

“Caribbean Airlines is delighted to present these tickets to these two fine young athletes, who will be participating in the sport of rugby in Trinidad and Tobago. Having spoken with Christopher Nascimento and with the good results being shown by the national rugby teams, we thought it best to remain on board with the GRFU.”

Inniss further stated that, “The GRFU is one of the better managed sports associations here in Guyana and the general public would readily agree with me on this one, having read about their success in the papers. It is with such in mind, that Caribbean Airlines had no hesitation in answering their call.”

Adonis then expressed thanks to Caribbean Airlines on their gesture and  reiterated that he would like to see the continued relationship between the air carrier and the GRFU.

“Thanks to Caribbean Airlines, for once again supporting sports and rugby, having done so on numerous occasions in the past. This time however they are supporting West Indies rugby and not the GRFU, but either way we are grateful.”

Adonis further stated:”Guyana has had numerous players in the West Indies team over the past two years and this time around it is not different with six of our players now contending for a place on the team to Hong Kong next March.”

“Caribbean Airlines has made it possible for our guys to play in the tournament in Trinidad from which they will be selected to participate in the West Indies team for the World Sevens in Hong Kong and with some new faces such as our very own Rupert Giles in the line up, the selectors will have much to look forward to this weekend in Trinidad.” said Adonis.

Butts who plays in the centre wing position and has been a member of the regional rugby team for the past four years also said thanks to Caribbean Airlines for their timely and generous donation on behalf of himself and scrum half La Rose.

The team for the Enthusiast’s Sevens tournament is: Albert La Rose Claudius Butts and Rupert Giles (Guyana), Andrew Bain (Bahamas), Andre Carbera, Graeme Alkins, Kidane Silverthorne and Wayne Kelly (Trinidad), Joshua Clarke and Michael Wilson (Cayman Islands) and Hollis Greene (St. Vincent).
