Driver looted another’s car after accident – court hears

A 54-year-old hire car driver was placed on $75,000 bail after he pleaded not guilty to a charge of simple larceny before Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

It is alleged that on April 20, Keith Chester of 7 Vigilance north, East Coast Demerara stole a number of items valued $230,000 from the car of Lochan Persaud. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

According to Police Prosecutor Denise Griffith, Persaud was involved in an accident and was pinned under his steering wheel. Chester and another man reportedly went to his assistance and it was then that Chester took the items including a gold chain worth $120,000 from Persaud’s car.

Griffith also said that Chester took the police to Buxton where two headlights, which are among the missing items, were recovered.

The matter continues in Court Four on May 6.
