$5M bail for death by dangerous driving charge

At the Albion Court on Wednesday, Magistrate Chandra Sohan granted a 36-year-old minibus driver $5M bail on a charge of causing death by dangerous driving and ordered that his passport be lodged at the court.
It is alleged that on May 31 Wesley Forde drove minibus number BKK 7312 along the Williamsburg Public Road in a dangerous manner and caused the death of 75-year-old Harry Persaud.
Reports are that Persaud of Fyrish Village was riding his bicycle when he swerved suddenly into the path of the bus that was about to pass him.

Police Chief Prosecutor ‘B’ Division, Inspector Fazil Karimbaksh requested that the defendant be placed on substantial bail on the grounds of the nature and seriousness of the charge. He also submitted that Forde who travels frequently overseas had only recently arrived in the country and is a flight risk. He also told the court that if the defendant was granted bail there is the likelihood that he would flee the jurisdiction.
Forde was ordered to appear in court on June 24 for report.
