Cattle farmer charged with Ithaca murder

A 58-year-old cattle farmer yesterday appeared at the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court charged with the murder of Marlon Fraser which occurred at Ithaca Savannahs on Saturday, a police press release said.

The accused, Glenston Darlington, of Ithaca, West Coast Berbice (WCB) was remanded to prison by Magis-trate Tajnarine Ramroop and will return to court on September 24.

Marlon Fraser called `Bruk Hand’ of Ogeer Street, Rosignol and Lovely Lass (WCB) was reportedly shot dead by the cattle rancher around 10 am after he was accused of stealing cattle. The rancher, who is a licensed firearm holder reported the matter to the police and was subsequently taken into custody.

Reports are that Fraser attacked the rancher with a cutlass and the man pulled out his licensed firearm and shot him in the neck

The file was completed and sent to the Chambers of the Director of Public Pro-secutions (DPP) for advice on the way forward. It was returned with instructions for the police to charge the man with the capital offence.

A post-mortem conducted on Fraser on Monday reveal-ed that he died from shock and hemorrhaging due to a gunshot wound.
