Too many acting appointments in schools

Dear Editor,

A number of schools in this new academic term are still without appointed head teachers and deputy head teachers and this has created quite a vacuum. The problem is very evident in the Berbice area and I recommend that the authorities deal with these pending matters urgently. I ask that the Teaching Service Commission (TSC) begin filling vacancies for headships and deputy headships of schools across Berbice immediately. The absence of these appointed personnel is creating havoc in these schools in terms of authority, delegation of duties and also competence.

When one would have thought that the situation of heads and deputies being appointed to various schools in Guyana would’ve improved with the new appointments effective Monday, January 7, 2008, a number of acting appointments are still evident.

Yours faithfully,
