Critchlow Labour College should appeal to former students now abroad for help

Dear Editor,

I am alarmed at government’s lack of response to the financial needs of the Critch-low Labour College. By now we should know that the withdrawal of financial support by the government is another act of discrimination towards the working class. I am sure that if Dr Jagan the former leader of the PPP was alive the party would have never withdrawn the financial grant from CLC. We have seen that the president who should be a president for all the people has once again taken action that will disenfranchise our youth and our workers and create further divisions in our society at a time when we all need to unite.

The management of CLC needs to be more proactive and not to allow the actions of the President to kill the dream of the working class who are able to improve their education by attending classes at CLC. Thousands of students have passed through the college through the years .I hope CLC still keeps records. Many students have been able to continue their education and to rise to higher heights in Guyana, many Caribbean countries, North America and even Europe. I hope that the college has the resources to now go public and international in making a call to all former graduates to save the college by making annual financial grants, financial contributions to a special fund which should be set up for the college. Of course the fund must be managed by a special appointed board of directors. Through the internet this idea can bear fruit. There must also be special annual dinner events for alumni for the purpose of raising funds for the college.

Let the college highlight all those students who have passed through the college and move on to greater success locally and abroad. We the students would never forget where we came from since our foundation was set by CLC and it is on that very foundation we were able to build.

Yours faithfully,
