The Sunburst Camptown team is the inaugural champion of the Georgetown Football Association’s (GFA) Milo Under-21 Competition after they defeated the Pele Football Club in the final at the Tucville Playfield last evening.
Sunburst Camptown recorded a come-from-behind victory and finished 2 – 1 at the final whistle of the nail-biting encounter and went home $80,000 richer.
From the first whistle both teams were well composed in the field and had equally skilled players but it was Pele who drew first blood with a terrific cross from the left flank that found the unmarked Quincy Hemerding in the 18-yard box who made no mistake of beating keeper Richie Richards to the left post in the 43rd minute.
Camptown answered back the very next minute from the kick off as they stormed the Pele defence, entered the 18-yard box and got a shot got off from the boot of Telson McKinnon that snuck past Pele’s custodian Shemroy Arthur who got finger tips to it and the ball made its way into the back of the net for the equalizer in the 44th minute.
When play resumed Camptown went ahead with a manoeuvre that emanated from a corner kick on the right flank, the very next touch for the ball was the right foot of Anthony Belfield which it rocketed off of and made its way past Arthur in the 58th minute.
Camptown then terrifically defended their one goal lead against Pele who were gunning for a goal they did not find even though they had a few good opportunities.
Pele had to settle for the runner up prize of $40,000 and the trophy while Fruta were presented with the third place prize of $20,000.
Camptown’s skipper and custodian Rashawn Sandiford and Richie Richards were adjudged the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Best Goal Keeper of the tournament while Pele Sheldon Holder with five goals copped the Highest Goal Scorer and the Georgetown Football Club was deemed the Most Disciplined Team.
