Gonsalves: No to brutality

The Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines has said his government does not condone police brutality.

He was responding to a picket of police headquarters in Kingstown by two dozen people who alleged that the police were abusing their authority.

Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves said the government had set up an oversight authority to investigate claims against the police and people could also seek redress in the court.

He said that the police had a difficult job but this couldn’t justify excessive force.
