Lottery scam clampdown leads to arrests

(Jamaica Gleaner) – Five persons including a female, said to be the sister of St Elizabeth’s most-wanted man, were taken into custody following clampdown operations against an illegal lottery scam in Warminster and Leeds district.

During the process, ganja and contraband believed to be used in the drug trade, lottery scam and witchcraft were seized.

Reports are that between 4.30 am and 7 am, a police team carried out operations in sections of St Elizabeth.

During the first exercise in the Warminster district, they seized heavy-duty equipment used in the compressing and packing of ganja and a large quantity of the drug. Three persons, including the woman, were arrested. In the second operation at Leeds district, two men were held in connection with the seizure of items believed to be linked to the lottery scam, including a list of names and telephone numbers of persons living abroad, and $300,000.

Items suspected to be used in the practice of witchcraft were also found and seized

The Organised Crime Investigation Division is probing the matter.
