GO-Kart racing on the rise

It’s been two-and-a-half months since the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club opened their Go-Kart track at Thomas Lands and since then the response has been overwhelming, according to President of the Club Vishok Persaud. The reason for opening the facility was to bring new blood to the sport and attract racers outside of the South Dakota Circuit. With this in mind, youths were the primary target for the sport and today it is believed that the objective is being met. Stabroek Sports visited the facility yesterday and drivers ranging between the ages of 10 and 14 could be seen fully decked out in their racing gear racing with the full support of their parents. Go-Kart racing is seen as the foundation of motor racing, and some of the world’s most famous drivers have used this avenue as a means of entry into the sport.
