Acid thrown in cricket administrator’s face

Just after 9 last night a man threw acid in the face of Assistant Treasurer of the Guyana Cricket Board, Preetipaul Jaigobin who was in a Strathspey, East Coast Demerara restaurant at the time.

Jaigobin stopped at the location which is on the way to his Clonbrook, East Coast Demerara home. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) just before 10 pm.

His wife, who spoke with Stabroek News this morning, said that Jaigobin has been admitted to the Burn Care Unit and is in a serious condition. Her husband, she said, only told her that a strange man walked up to him in the restaurant, threw the acid in his face and told him to “leave his friends alone.”

The woman said that her husband believes that he was attacked because of recent statements he made on the cricket front. “I can’t tell you much more,” she said. “I am on my way to visit him…his condition is serious and I am not pushing him to talk because the acid burns extend to his lips.”

Jaigobin also serves as treasurer for the Demerara Cricket Board.
