The Golden Jaguars team is on a mission which is not entirely impossible.
Their goal today when they oppose Trinidad’s Soca Warriors is to defeat Russell Latapy’s CONCACAF number one team in the inaugural President’s Cup encounter at the Providence National Stadium.
Today is D-Day, the day of reckoning, the day when the mountain of questions that surround the standard of Guyana’s football will hopefully be answered.
Football, is the country’s number two sport and following the Amazon Conquerors less than stellar performance in the just concluded Airtel Champions League Twenty20 tournament in South Africa it is to football that sporting fans will look for some sort of redemption.
The action will get underway from 4pm with Linden’s Under-17 team coming up against Georgetown Under-17.
At 6pm, the Golden Jags and Soca Warriors junior teams will go head-to-head while the main course will be served at 8pm with the clash between the two senior teams of their respective countries.
Trinidad, the number one ranked CONCACAF team, is coming off of a recent 3 – 0 victory over St Lucia and if rankings play true to form should record a win over the FIFA 76th ranked Guyana team.
