GPF extends lead

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) yesterday extended  its lead by amassing 231 points a lead of 132 points over  the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) at the end of the second day of the Inter-Service Athletics Championships at the Police Spots Club ground, Eve Leary.

GDF ended on 99 points after being fourth with 27 points at the end of day one on Tuesday.

The Guyana Fire Service (GFS) trails in the third place position with 57 points and the Guyana Prison Service, fourth, with 36 points.
City Constabulary remains scoreless.

The event is expected to conclude tomorrow when a  winner will be determined. Yesterday saw the completion of the male and female shot put, and triple jump events along with the female 3000m race.

In the 3000m, GDF got the advantage having athletes taking the top three spots, while the GPF athletes were left to take the next three spots.

GDF’s Ashanti Scot led the way in 11:55.20 seconds, nicking athlete Eunice Henry by a few seconds after Henry finished in 11:59.80s.Rebecca Alexander claimed an easy third place finish coming in at 12:24.90s.
For the shot put, however, it was the GPF that governed the first three positions ahead of the GDF athletes. After taking a massive win in the discus on Tuesday, Ronald Payne threw to a best of 11.91m to add the shot put event to his list of victories.

Second place went to Michael Pollydore with 11.18m with Adrian Massiah,third with 11.14m.

On the women’s side of the shot put  the GPF was not as prosperous but still seized the first place position when Joan Browne landed her best throw of 8.99m on her first try. GDF’s Joycelyn Scott was second with a throw of 8.37m and Amanda Hermonstine (8.04m) was third.

In the triple jump, the GPF again raked in wins with higher success on the men’s side. In the male category, GPF once again took the top spots with Kendell Mentore (13.56m), Jason Critchlow (13.27m), and Troy Williams (13.04m). GFS got a fourth and an eight position, and GDF gathered nine points from fifth through to seventh.

GPF’s Natasha Alder jumping to 10.61m headed the female side, followed by teammate Donna Ferguson who jumped t 9.24m, GDF’s Wannita Wayne was third at 9.01m.
