(Trinidad Express) Commissioner of Police Dwayne Gibbs on Wednesday made an appeal to members of the public to assist in weeding out rogue elements within the Police Service.
Gibbs was speaking at a police town meeting at the Santa Rosa Government Primary School, Pinto Road in Arima on Wednesday night.
He assured that all complaints brought against police officers would be fully ventilated and the appropriate actions taken, since rouge elements bring the entire service into disrepute.
Arima residents complained, during the meeting, that there were some officers who operated outside the law.
“Whether it’s drinking (and) driving, whether it’s disobeying all rules of the road and is driving, and if you see them taking bribes…There is no room in our service for that…Lodge a formal complaint by writing it down, and presenting it to the (Police) Complaints Unit. They will investigate any of your complaints. Whether the complaints on the conduct of the member (of the service) or the fact that the member hasn’t conducted themselves in a manner that’s appropriate,” Gibbs said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police Maurice Piggott said the Police Service intends to streamline and scrutinise security firms when it enters into an alliance with private security firms.
Piggott said because of the shortage in manpower the service has been faced with, security firms, as previously stated by National Security Minister Brigadier John Sandy, would be utilised to be the eyes and ears of the Police Service.
