Venezuelan ambassador Morandy feels visitors have skills to win

Venezuelan Breilor ‘Zulianito de Oro’ Teran and Colombian Olga ‘La Mona’ Julio arrived in Guyana yesterday to keep their ring date with their Guyanese counterparts on Saturday on the Caribbean Fury2 boxing card at the Princess Hotel.

Following their arrival the duo paid a courtesy call on Venezuela’s Ambassador to Guyana, Dario Morandy at his Thomas Street office.
Morandy gave the two boxers a hearty welcome and assured them that they will make their countries proud.

“I wholeheartedly welcome these two boxers to Guyana, and I think they will make Venezuela and Colombia proud, because they have the skills and techniques to do the job,” Morandy declared through his interpreter.

He ended his brief speech by giving the two boxers his blessings for success on Saturday.
Teran, who has 12 wins, four of which came by knockouts, eight losses and one draw, will fight Guyana’s world-ranked boxer Leon ‘Hurry Up’ Moore in the 10-round main event.

Moore has an impressive record of 22 wins by knockout out of his 26 wins against two losses.
Julio will challenge Women’s International Boxing Association (WIBA) bantamweight champion Shondell ‘Mystery Lady’ Alfred in a six-round contest.
Teran and Julio, in brief speeches through interpreter Carlos Cuevas, declared that they are confident ahead of their assignments and patrons can expect good contests on fight night.

Promoter of the card, Carwyn Holland, expressed his gratitude to the ambassador while assuring that the gesture will assist in strengthening the relationships between the countries.

Also on the card are heavyweights Mitchell Rogers and Leon Gilkes who battle each other and former world champion Pamela London who will be  fighting WIBA’s and Global Boxing Union’s (GBU) heavyweight champion, Gwendolyn ‘Stealth Bomber’ O’Neil.

Dominica-based Guyanese Clive Atwell, who is resuscitating his professional career after some measure of inactivity, will trade punches with Errol Trotman.
‘Deadly’ Denny Dalton, after losing his last bout to Hector ‘Machito’ Camacho on June 5, will take on International Boxing Federation (IBF) Latino light middleweight champion Raul Frank.

Both fighters are looking to prove a point. Frank is looking to assure the public that he is still the great fighter who happened to lose to the late Vernon Forrest in 2000 for the IBF welterweight title of the world. Dalton will be looking to prove that he is still the hard hitting fighter that beat Guyana’s first world champion Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis, twice.

Another foreigner, Canadian Richard Reittie,  will take on Guyanese Mark Murray. Reittie has already made his intentions clear stating that he will be leaving the verbal warfare for the ring. He also told Stabroek Sport that he will be looking to be comfortable in the ring by making Murray do the things he does not like.

Reittie admitted that Murray has more ring experience but said his aim was to win against the more experienced boxer who has not won any of his 13 professional fights.
