Cops accused of stealing ganja, demanding money not to prosecute

Three police officers accused of taking 301 grams of cannabis from a man and then demanding the sum of $75,000 so that he could avoid prosecution were today remanded to prison by Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

The three arraigned on charges of extortion and possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking are Shindell James, Eon Grannum and Jermaine Durant and they are attached to the Tactical Services Unit of the Guyana Police Force.  (More in tomorrow’s edition)
