The Guyana Revenue Authority has announced that July 13 is be the new deadline for purchasing motor vehicle licences, and thereafter defaulters will be liable to be charged by the police.

The new deadline extends the previous purchase schedule which would expire on Tuesday.

The GRA said in a press release that persons who do not purchase their licences before the deadline will be subjected to an additional penalty of 10% of the cost of the licence.
Moreover, after the deadline the Guyana Police Force will be monitoring motor vehicle owners to ensure they are in possession of the relevant licences, and failure to comply with the July 13 deadline will result in charges being made against defaulters, the release stated.
When applying for a new licence or renewing a motor vehicle licence, the applicant must present  the following documents: Taxpayer Identification Number,  Motor Vehicle Registration, Insurance, Certificate of Fitness, and the previous year’s licence in the case of a renewal.

Motor vehicle licences can be renewed at any GRA location in Georgetown or any Regional Branch Office.
Meanwhile, owners of minibuses and vans which are registered for the transporting of “Goods” and were assigned the alpha digit “G” must present their vehicles for examination in support of their application.

Similarly, the release added, vehicle owners who have changed the colour, engine or chassis of their vehicles must also have their vehicles examined when applying for a change of registration or renewal of licence.
