GRC helps 11 families who lost homes to fire

The Guyana Relief Council (GRC) made a number of donations on Friday to 11 families who suffered losses due to fire.

In a press release the GRC said it provided assistance to Vishnu Mohabir from a family of five and Ramroop Mahadeo from a family of two of 23 and 21 De Buff, Canal No 2, West Bank Demerara, respectively.

Also, Cicely Prince from a family of two, Jasodra Ramhewan from a family of five; Desa Cummings from a family of three; Telishia Heber from a family of  three, Julius Fraser and Sharon Simeon,  all of Fourth Street, Better Hope, East Coast Demerara (ECD) received assistance.

In addition, donations were made to Chewhohedia Hinds from a family of two of 584 Block X A Liliendaal, ECD; Stanley De Souza from a family of three of 1 Friendship Squatting Area, East Bank Demerara and Monica Mc Donald of Wellington Street and North Road. The GRC said the donations also include assistance to purchase building materials, mattresses, clothing, kitchen utensils and groceries.

For the year the GRC has provided assistance to 113 families comprising 403 persons who suffered losses due to fire; 14 welfare cases, one hinterland welfare cases, two cases comprising 10 persons who suffered due to high winds and two organisation welfare cases. It extended profound gratitude to the persons and organisations that without hesitation respond to its calls to provide assistance and help alleviate some of the trauma suffered by families affected by disasters.
