Night Shelter man pleads guilty to hitting fellow resident

An occupant of the state-run night shelter who admitted to hitting a fellow resident with a piece of iron over his mouth was on Friday placed on a bond to keep the peace pending the determination of the matter when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Brian Wilfred pleaded guilty to the charge of wounding which states that on December 28 at the night shelter he wounded Rich Ramlogan.

In giving the facts of the case, prosecutor Stephen Telford told the court that on the day of the incident, after repeatedly threatening to kill the complainant; Wilfred later armed himself with a piece of iron and dealt the virtual complainant (VC) a blow above his mouth.

When given a chance to respond, Wilfred related to the court that the complainant was cursing and insulting him [Wilfred] about his mother when he became angry and lashed him.

After hearing the case, Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry before whom Wilfred appeared ordered a probation report into the incident.

Meanwhile, the matter has been adjourned to January 17 for sentencing.
