Bouterse outlines deficit fighting measures

(De Ware Tijd) — In order to deal with the finance deficit of the State, the government will have to take unpopular measures. According to President Desi Bouterse, we will have to make sacrifices and sometimes accept unpopular measures to deal with out state-financial problem. Among these are a better collecting of state incomes but also tax increases on mining and the introduction of measures to make ‘free riders’ pay also. He said this in his New Year’s Address that was provided to the media yesterday evening and will be broadcasted via radio and TV today.
