Guyanese trio feared dead after fun day at Mayaro Beach

Three Guyanese are feared dead after a day of fun turned tragic on Sunday afternoon at the popular Mayaro beach in South Trinidad, according to the Trinidad Express.

Those feared dead are 21-year-old twin brothers Rickey and Ryan Lall and their friend 20-year-old Mahendra Deonarine.

According to the Express the three young men were among some 20 men who had gone to the beach to have some fun. They were in the water when they encountered some difficulties and the three who were said to be far out in the water went under. Their friends attempted to save them but their attempts were futile.

The Trinidadian Coast Guard was called in and up to yesterday afternoon ranks were out searching for the men. The newspaper said that the three men lived at Princess Town and worked at a supermarket in the said area.

A report was made to the Mayaro Police Station where a party of police officers responded including visited the scene.  The Coast Guard and Lifeguard Base were informed with the view of assisting in the search of the area.

A journalist at another Trinidadian newspaper told Stabroek News yesterday that attempts to speak with the relatives of the three young men were unsuccessful. He said that the relatives were generally uncooperative with the authorities on the island and according to him, speculations were rife that the young men were residing illegally on the island.

Checks at the Non Pariel , ECD address provided by the relatives of the Lall brothers were unsuccessful last evening as persons in the village could not confirm the men’s identities.

Search efforts will continue for the trio today.
