Foreign power has indicated `vested interest’ in elections – Jagdeo

President Bharrat Jagdeo this morning said he is very concerned about another country indicating a “vested interest” in Guyana’s elections.

Jagdeo, in a marathon address to officers of the Guyana Defence Force, said that recently he saw “word coming out” from a mission stating that they have a vested interest in the elections. He said that he has no problem with interest being shown in the country’s election but when it becomes vested he has a problem.

“This vested interest concerns me a lot,” Jagdeo told the officers during the opening session of their annual conference. He did not name the country.

Meanwhile, Jagdeo also told the officers to pay attention to the cables coming out of WikiLeaks.

The president said he would be “happy to see” whatever comes out of Guyana in the cables.

However, he made no mention of recent revelations that drug kingpin Roger Khan was in cahoots with now Surname President Desi Bouterse in drug trafficking. He said that the cables have exposed how “fickle” and “frivolous” things can get.

According to Jagdeo, Wikileaks would trigger change in American diplomacy while at the same time make the diplomacy of developing countries more advanced.
