Linden Hospital Complex workers down tools

More than 50% of workers scheduled to be at the Linden Hospital Complex this morning downed tools and have taken to the streets in protest over the Ministry of Health’s decision not to incorporate a gratuity payment into the February payroll.

They said that while standing up for what they deserve, they are ensuring that patients at the institution are adequately cared for.

“We don’t want people to think that we are heartless. There is a skeleton staff on duty and if there is an emergency the relevant staff will go in and deal with it and then come out when they are done”, the Guyana Public Service Union (GPSU) Linden representative, Maurice Butters said.
