Brazil minister visits Haiti

(BBC) The Brazilian foreign minister, Antonio Patriota, has said that his country hopes for free and fair voting in next month’s second round presidential run-off in Haiti.

He was speaking during a visit to Port au Prince.

Brazil leads the United Nations peacekeeping force in Haiti where Mr Patriota met outgoing President Rene Preval, as well as presidential candidates Mirlande Manigat and Michel Martelly.

“Political stability and predictability is fundamental for a country such as Haiti to be able to concentrate on the big challenges it faces,” the minister said.
