Guyana-born Courts Jamaica Managing Director dies

(Go-Jamaica) Rudolph Hayden Singh, the managing director of Courts Jamaica has died.

Singh, who was affectionately called Hayden passed away peacefully in his sleep early this morning in Miami.

Hayden who turned 60 on January 6, was born in Georgetown, Guyana.

He joined the Courts family in 1992 as operations director. After a four-year stint, Hayden was promoted to deputy managing director and in 2000, he assumed the position of managing director.

As managing director of Courts, Hayden headed the country’s largest furniture and appliance retail store.

Under his stewardship, Courts recorded numerous successes. Among them is the phenomenal expansion of the company’s branch network from 17 in 1992 to the current count of 29 branches in Jamaica.

He also engineered the growth of the company’s distribution centres creating greater efficiencies in their systems administration.

According to a press release from Courts Jamaica Limited, Hayden was described as one who was always quick to emphasize teamwork among his colleagues and attributed the company’s success to this fact.

“It was under his watch in 2002 that the company recorded the most profitable year in its history. Additionally, Hayden was instrumental in the construction of a Cash & Go Centre in all the stores and his shrewd business acumen led to dramatic growth in the company’s credit portfolio,” the statement said.

The statement from Courts also expressed shock and sadness at the news.

“We express our heartfelt condolences to his wife-Joyce, daughter-Samantha and son-Christopher,” the statement said.
