Benschop, McCoy in ruckus

Social activist, Mark Benschop says he was attacked outside of Kwame McCoy’s home at Diamond, East Bank Demerara this morning after he had gone there to reportedly take photographs.

Benschop is alleging that McCoy pulled a gun on him before attempting to take his camera. The two had a struggle and Benschop later fled the area on foot after several other persons entered the fracas and allegedly threatened him with guns.

However, an agitated McCoy told reporters that Benschop and at least three other men turned up at his home and illegally entered the premises. McCoy’s home is under construction and according to him Benschop and his gang broke a window.

Police have since escorted both McCoy and Benschop to the Grove Police Station and taken statements, and the matter was then transferred to the authorities at Brickdam police station.

Benschop’s vehicle, which was left outside of McCoy’s home after he fled, was badly damaged and he has since reported that cash and several items including important personal documents have been stolen.

Benschop denied breaking McCoy’s window and explained that he was at the home to show how money is being spent on mansions for people like McCoy.
