At about 12.30 pm today goldsmith Mahendra Persaud, 29 years of Mon Repos North, ECD, was attacked and robbed by two men at the Ann’s Grove Foreshore, ECD.
Investigations revealed that Persaud made an arrangement to meet with a man at Ann’s Grove to purchase some raw gold. During the process, Persaud was taken to the foreshore where he was confronted by another man who dealt him a blow to his head and was robbed of $99,000, a cell phone, jewellery and a scale.
Subsequent investigations into the report led to the arrest of one of the suspects by the police, while the other was arrested by public-spirited persons and handed over to the police. Both men are in police custody assisting with the investigations.
