PPP concerned over elections preparations

The People’s Progressive Party today said it was very concerned that even though the period of “Claims and Objections” is approaching in preparation for general elections the Guyana Elections Commission has not been meeting due to the lack of a quorum.

A party statement said that one member of the Commission recommended by the Opposition Leader has not attended any meeting for the year.  It added that the other two are often absent which leads to meetings not being held.

“This can affect the preparatory work for the upcoming elections. The Party therefore urges that this shortcoming be corrected immediately and priority be given to the work of the Commission”, the party added.
