Cop injured in shoot-out with bandits

A policeman was shot in his face and thigh today when he went to the rescue of a businesswoman who was being attacked by three men.

Police Sergeant Ransford Liverpool is currently hospitalized.

Police sad that at about 1640h. today businesswoman Jennifer Mohamed, 47 years, was walking along Avenue of the Republic, Georgetown, heading to her parked motor vehicle when she was “confronted by three men, one of whom was armed with a handgun”.

A police release said that the  men, who came up on bicycles, demanded a bag that she had in her possession containing over $2 million and some documents and which she handed over to them.

Liverpool who was passing on his motor cycle at the time observed what was taking place and  responded, resulting in an exchange of gunfire during which he was shot and injured to his left side face and right upper thigh. He has been admitted to the GPHC and was undergoing surgery at the time of this press release.

The perpetrators managed to escape on foot.
