Suriname issued 3,300 visas to Chinese in three years

(De Ware Tijd)  THE HAGUE — From 2007 till 2010, the Surinamese Embassy in Beijing has issued a visa to “only” 3,299 Chinese. In reaction on an article in the New York Times that was later on copied by the South China Morning Post according to which Suriname is flooded by Chinese, Isaak Soerokarso Ambassador of Suriname to China wonders how thousands of Chinese have then managed to enter the country. The article also states that Chinese aid and immigration offer Suriname better perspectives. Soerokarso thinks that if Chinese who have legally entered the country have remained here, this is a task for controlling departments.
