Guysuco calls in police over `irregularities’

The Guyana Sugar Corporation tonight said it has called in the Guyana Police Force to investigate irregularities which were detected in the personnel division of its Head Office operations.

It said that the irregularities were detected internally and promptly reported to management. The Police were immediately alerted and are currently conducting their investigations. It provided no further details.

The Guysuco press release was issued only after Stabroek News made inquiries with its Chief Executive and PR department about a reported large fraud related to leave passage assistance. An employee in the personnel division is believed to have been bilking the corporation of significant sums. Sources say millions of dollars are involved.
