Patentia girl dies after she and father struck down

Seven-year-old Althea Clement died after she and her father were involved in a hit and run on Sunday at Wills Public Road, West Bank Demerara.

Cedric Clement, of 20 Patentia Housing Scheme, West Bank Demerara, from his hospital bed, told this newspaper that he and his daughter were on their way home when he noticed a vehicle approaching at a fast rate. Upon observing this, Clement stated that he rushed to put his daughter in the corner but yet the vehicle knocked them down, leaving the child under the car and Clement in a nearby trench. Althea died on the spot.

Clement, 50, recalled that it was the moment when the driver came out the motorcar and saw him in the trench that he made his escape.
