City hit by extensive blackouts

A day after new generators were offloaded for GPL, the capital city has been hit by extensive blackouts reportedly as a result of faults in the transmission system.

Parts of Lacytown where Stabroek News’ Robb Street’s office is located have been without power for 12 hours now. Power was lost just shortly after midnight. Other sections of the city also suffered power cuts during the early hours of the morning.

GPL officials have not been available today to explain what the problem is.
