US resident held at hotel on suspicion of trafficking, other activities

Crime Chief Seelall Persaud confirmed that a US resident was arrested at an East Bank Demerara hotel this morning on suspicion that he is involved in narcotics trafficking and terrorism-related activities.

Persaud declined to divulge much information about the case only saying that the man who had been staying at the hotel for a “few days” was arrested based on information received.

He did not reveal if the man was under surveillance for some time or what was his reason for being in Guyana.

The man is currently being questioned at Police Headquarters, Eve Leary.
