Six die in Jamaica accidents

(Jamaica Gleaner) Six people have been killed and five others injured in two separate motor vehicle crashes in St. Mary and Trelawny this morning.

The community of Cascade, St Mary is now mourning the deaths of 22-year-old Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) soldier Kemba Baxter and his 19 year old cousin, Adrian Smith. The latter was due to undergo a medical examination on Wednesday as part of the prerequisites to join the JDF.

A third passenger has been hospitalised in serious condition. It is reported that around 6 a.m., Baxter, his cousin and the other passenger were travelling from a party in a Nissan Pulsar motor car.

Baxter reportedly failed to negotiate a corner metres from his home, when the vehicle crashed into an embankment, killing him and his cousin.

Meanwhile, four foreigners were killed and four others injured when the mini bus in which they were travelling crashed into a 2010 Ford Ranger on the Braco main road in Trelawny this morning.

The dead foreigners have been identified as: Talia Jones, a Canadian living in the United Kingdom (UK); 45-year-old Kathleen Rawlinson; 17-year-old Caisie Mulla and 49-year-old Gary Banford, also of the U.K.
