Benschop endorses AFC

Civil rights activist Mark Benschop tonight announced that he was endorsing the Alliance For Change at the upcoming general elections.

In a statement, he said “My choice is the Alliance For Change (AFC)…I am impressed with their leadership, which is very energetic and represents our multi-racial nation. The AFC, I’m convinced is the party that will lead Guyana on the path of racial harmony, progress, respect around the world, would be the only conduit for youths to shine and make their dreams reality, restore respect amongst the arm forces, restoration of the rule of law, independent judiciary, root out corruption at every level, respect workers rights, end the radio monopoly, amongst other things.”

He said his support for the AFC, was in no way a deviation from his years of struggle against “this oppressive PPP regime, which is responsible for my five long years of incarceration (in solitary confinement at the Camp Street Prisons) on a trumped up ‘treason’ charge.”

He declared that Guyanese have had enough of PPP rule.

“Within the past 19 years of PPP rule, we have witnessed rampant corruption, marginalization, killing squads, drugs, assassinations, neglect of workers rights, torturing of citizens… All of these and more, are enough for Guyanese to vote the PPP out of office.”
