Post-mortem examinations yesterday revealed that Shiva and Viya Persaud, who were found dead in a pond near the hanging body of their father, at Adventure, Essequibo Coast, were both drowned.
Government pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh gave the cause of death of Shiva, four, and Viya, two, as asphyxiation due to drowning, police said yesterday. An examination was also performed on the body of their father, Ranveer Persaud, 27, and his cause of death was given as asphyxiation due to hanging.
On Wednesday, Persaud’s body was found hanging from a tree at the back of his father’s yard, while the children were found nearby in a pond. Police have said it is suspected that the man killed the children, after which he committed suicide.
Reports are that the young man and his wife had a turbulent relationship in recent months. Persaud’s wife Shivanie Persaud said they had a heated argument on Tuesday night, following which her husband left the house with the children. He told her he was taking them to their grandfather, who lives a short distance away. “That was the last time we see them,” she stated.
