Wijdenbosch gov’t attempted to sell Staatsolie – book

(De Ware Tijd) PARAMARIBO – The book ‘Van confrontatie tot samenwerking’ (From Confrontation to Collaboration … trans.), which tells the history of Staatsolie’s union SWOS reveals that Suriname came close to losing the oil company and its current glory. In 1997, the oil company’s management and union managed to block the planned sale under the Wijdenbosch government. When he became a Parliamentarian after his term as President, Jules Wijdenbosch defended his government’s plans with Staatsolie by claiming that it did not involve a sale, but a joint-venture intended to increase production. The book was commissioned by the SWOS and written by Jack mencke and Jerry Egger.
