Dear Editor,
It is with extreme disgust that I am writing to lament the callous and blatant disregard for privacy and the environment by the Taxi drivers of the Green Ice Taxi service located in South Ruimveldt Gardens.
Over the past three years these taxi drivers have been using the government parapet located opposite a residence as a parking lot. They park their cars facing my home from 5 am in the morning into the wee hours of the morning. Calls to the base and the owner to have his drivers relocate to where the taxi service is located have gone unanswered.
I can’t look through my window seeing strange men of all walks of life sitting in their cars and staring at my house. As if having strange men park outside your home every day all day, playing obscene music, using expletives and discussing the affairs of their customers loudly is not bad enough they have begun dumping their garbage as well.
Upon arriving at their so called parking lot they throw their food boxes, drink bottles, beer cans and whatever garbage they have acquired while conducting their business out of the window making this area a haven for rats. Immediately after paying to clean this area to prevent the rat infestation from occurring they dump again. They have no regard for my home or money.
I have informed City Hall of the visiting dumpsite only to have them do nothing. Why should residents endure these taxi drivers who have become a menace to the occupants of David Rose Street South Ruimveldt Gardens? Why is City Hall allowing these taxi drivers to continue this illegal operation? Why hasn’t the owner provided a space for his taxi drivers to operate? Why are these taxi drivers not being charged for dumping as they are using the trench as their personal garbage bins?
